I've wondered the same thing. I've always enjoyed his posts and his gun builds. There is another member name now that I think is him, but, I can't remember the name now.

He is now Vaino. That's a Finnish word that means; "I'm going incognito now and you have to figure it out."

It happened during the changeover to the new system. It may be a part of the Federal Gun Builders Protection System. Very hush hush.

Maybe he went incognito for a reason, maybe you just ruined that.

His name was probably F Lehto. There is no 'Fl' dipthong in Finnish, except maybe with a foreign name like Florian, Florence, Frederick, Franz, Fritz or similar. 'F' is also a very seldom seen letter in Finnish.

What is interesting to me here, and I asked about Fred in another "where is so and so," thread, is that Vaino doesn't chime in. And that is who I was thinking of in my earlier reply.

Pretty sure he went by flehto here and don't recta handle change.

Go over to ALR and ask him. He posts there all the time.

Yes, he is vaino, it happened after the changeover. It is strange though that he hasnt posted here for a while. His name used to to be flehto. It’s a combination of his first and last name. A really nice guy who made some really nice rifles.

Hi,
Fred goes by "Vaino" on this forum now. He changed it when the forum changed hands. Fred suffers from macular degeneration and has trouble seeing his work. He says he stopped making guns after his last Bucks County rifle. His post here and on ALR are always excellent, thoughtful, and helpful. I hope he keeps posting comments.

Hi all. When the change was made, this website wouldn't allow me to use "flehto" so I used my middle name {Wayne} but in Finnish which is Väinö but didn't know if the umlauts would be accepted, so didn't use them. Who ever noted that the letter "F" is not in the standard Finnish alphabet is correct....only used in foreign words.

Thanks for the kind words which are greatly valued. Have ceased building because of rotten eyesight which is constantly getting worse.

Struggled to finish my last build which is a Bucks County and it has some slight aging.....it's also fancier than previous BCs.

Enjoy posting on this site and also the ALR.....but enjoy reading other's posts more.

Below are some pics of my last build and which will hopefully be sold this year....Fred

That is a beautiful piece of work. Aging eyes are a problem. I am seeing my ophthalmologist tomorrow for a treatment for high eye pressure. Hopefully glaucoma isn't in my future.

So glad you are here. I absolutely love your work, and always enjoy your posts and comments.

What I wouldn't give to be able to buy that rifle.
I believe I listed, "one of Flehto's Buck's county guns," as one of the guns I would most like to acquire in a topic about guns we would want, years ago. That one is exceptional.

I've always had vision trouble, with distance, now close vision is rapidly deteriorating. My now late grandmother had macular degeneration in her last years, ruining one of her favorite pastimes, reading.
God bless you...

Fred,

Since you are a specialist and highly knowledgeable about Bucks County guns, and those are not well understood, have you ever thought about writing a book or specialty piece about them? Of course, as you've said, they aren't often built, and the trickiest parts of them are in making the entry pipe tails.

Yes, not seeing is a terrible terrible affliction. I just had cataract surgery Monday for my first eye. The difference in my eyesight almost made me cry it was so dramatic. I went from 20/250 in that eye, to 20/25. Quite a color shift too. Next one is in 2 weeks. That eye isn't as bad. 20/70, but it's my dominant eye.
