I am curious as to what most of our forum choice is for their favorite type of black powder gun. I started out in percussion, then went to flintlock. What is your favorite? Please ignore the 1st choice, this is the first time I've posted a poll, and I'm old and computer illiterate. If you choose "other", you obviously own two or more different types. If so, state all the different types you have. Pictures or it isn't (ain't) so.

Before I started hunting and shooting I didn’t think there was much value in the re-enactment hobby that my dad enjoyed. When I went on a muzzleloader hunt after getting interested in shooting/hunting, I borrowed his Springfield for economic reasons. Carrying that weapon really brought to life the old guys and I thought of what it would have been like back then and experienced a tiny part of what they would have experienced. I chose percussion because that’s what I have, but I would say all of them because using a period weapon brings that period to life for me.

Certainly all eras have thier own appeal, but currently I am most fascinated with the mid 18th century flinters...There (in my opinion) is where our longrifles and their descendants originated, thus the birth place for our sports and way of life. Along with that all our accoutrements are easy and fun to make on our own, which makes these all too long winters go by much faster.

This poll is like asking, "which of your kids is your favorite?" I like them all. I love shooting and so long as it goes "bang", I'm in, doesn't matter the time period. I would think that question would be more for a reenactor.

Had to go with other as I have zero interest in “muzzle loaders”. However I have a very large interest in civil war era revolvers and the breech loading carbines developed and in general use at the time.
A black powder “ purists “ for sure just not in the way the forum is basically set up for.

I like all types of Black Powdah ignition and my shootable collection spans from a ...
  • Late ~1300s Hand Gonne, to
  • Arquebus (ignition by punk on a stick or serpentine), to
  • Matchlocks (ignition by serpentine, lever and a trigger), then to a
  • Wheellock (my personal favorite, as the engineering technology of the 1500s is just sooooo darn cool!), to
  • Snaphaunce, Miquelet, English Lock and other 'Flintlock' variations [not shown]
I end with 1 lowly 'cap' gun in the stable, to at least have all the BP igintion types covered.

Mostly percussion rifles and pistols with a couple of flintlocks and six revolvers . Pictures? I have 33 BP guns and really don't want to picture and post all that. My favorite era is percussion but I admire all BP guns. Polecat

Well I'm going to say percussion. That is for now. I don't have a Flintlock, yet. I hope to be having one sometime this year. And then who knows maybe flintlocks will be my favorite.
