Mine's a 42" that's 13/16" across the flats. It's not swamped, but the next one will be.

my .54 i'm finishing up soon has a 42" swamped barrel now but i was thinking the a 42" barrel might be to long in a .36 that's why i was think of 38" or even 36" maybe....was looking fer some info before i decided :v ............bob

My 36cal. has a 42", "A" weight swamped Colerain barrel, in a Lancaster stock. Love it. Perfect squirrel gun for me.

Well mines gonna be 32" but thats cause I'm height challenged. :haha: I bet your idea of a 38" swamped barrel will make a fine squirrel rifle.

bob: I built the rifle in this post a few years ago.
It doesn't have a swamped barrel, but the shortened 13/16 straight .36 caliber barrel is about as light weight as a person could want. It was shortened from the standard 42 inch barrel to 37 inches.
BOYS RIFLE

It might not be "correct" for HC reenacting but it sure is a sweet little light weight rifle.
zonie :)

My .36 has a 21” barrel. 15/16" across the flats.
Not a flintlock, but....I like it.
Next one won’t be so long.

Mine is a Isaac Haines Lancaster rifle, 38" "B" weight Getz swamped barrel with a Chambers large Siler lock. The balance is wonderful & if I were to build another one, it would be exactly like this one is, only with a Rice barrel most likely.

I would go with a "B" weight as it has a little more meat in it & just 4 oz heavier if memory serves me correctly. ( course it seldom does..........)

i have 2 orignal half stocks. one is a .32 cal with a 36" long with a 7/8" barrel. the other is a .36 with a 34"long with a 7/8" barrel. the .32 is converted from flint. both handle nice and are easy to aim and hold.

Bob... A .36 cal "B" weight 38" in length should feel very nice. I built an Isaac Haines in .32 cal. with a 38" barrel. I think mine was an "A" weight however. It should be about the same, weight wise, because or the slightly larger bore. I think you'll like your combination.

I have a .36 with a 3/4"x 42" straight GM barrel. I haven't shot it much off hand yet but it feels just a tad heavier than I'd like.
