What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

yesterday i poured a nose cap on my whatzit 30cal flintlock.
today i shaped it and refinished the forearm. not top shelf but i think the nose cap is an improvement.
the bottom rifle. when i got it it was a toss up for firewood
not one thing done correct. good shooting little gun though.
have to fill in the under rib somehow.

not much experience pouring caps. figured i could only improve on what was there.
when i got that stock, the rr channel had broached out of the forearm so i poured a entry pipe and put a slip on nose cap to meet the short under rib. couldn't work up any love for that setup so jumped in with both feet and poured the new cap.

got my pewter melted and inserted a tapered dowel into the entry pipe. got to wondering if it would scorch the wood so i stirred the melted pewter with a popsicle stick i just happened to have in hand. no scorch. used a piece of brass sheet to wrap the forearm as a dam/form. worked a charm with electricians tape holding it tight.
dowel came right out.

Some knives I picked up at garage sales this past week. Now, what to do with them. The two butter knives might make good patch knives. The steel seems good.

Those top two Hickory knives are nice especially the 2nd one.

To me it looks like it use to be a full stock at one time but the pewter looks great. I’ve never poured pewter before but probably will try to learn on a couple of shop knives.

The Olympics are not in Frankenstuffer's future. At least with this barrel. This is at 12 yards. As it stands right now, I'm calling this a FAIL.

20 inch barrel. .375 bore. .360 balls. .015 patches. Could definitely go with .018.

The patches were cutting at the muzzle like a lead ring on a cap n ball revolver. Need to break the edge on that chamfer.

Wondering if the balls were shooting past the patch while the ball was still in the bore.

5 shots with 40 grains of 3F Black.

3 shots with 50 grains of 3F Black.

When you get the muzzle smoothed down, you might even try a .020 patch. That bore/ball combo you have there seems a bit loose. With a .018 or .020 it might rock your world!

I ran some patches thru a M/Ler today, in preparation of taking it to the range Saturday. RSO meeting in the morning, shooting in the afternoon.

Rolled some Paper patch for .375 M/L.
.364 bullet.
Double wrap of .002" Onion skin to .368 ish. (don't have a 368 sizing die yet)
Trial tomorrow.

I got out and shot the 54 cal Hawken and dialed in my hunting load for the year. I also shot my 50 cal Mtn Rifle and feel really good about it as well definitely going to have to carry it some also. Lastly I picked up a new to me P. Brock Ackerman 45 call long rifle that I mentioned in another post. I'm really excited about that one.

Did an inventory on roundball and minies. 40 cal.rb 460, 45 cal.,rb, 220, 50 cal. rb, 740, 58 cal., rb 170, minies 200. Plenty of stock for the upcoming fall shoots!

Disassembled the Woodsrunner lock yesterday afternoon, started polishing the externals, and been doing that today. I opted not to put a 3rd coat of T&T on the stock this morning. I burnished it and hung it outside in the shade for about 5 hours, brought it back in a few minutes ago. I’ll let it hang inside overnight again. I’d like that T&T to fully dry before the 3rd coat. Showing a few before and after photos of the lock. And a photo of the temperature!!!!!!!

Last Friday I took my wife out for dinner then went to Walmart and picked 6 tins of #11 caps. Tonight I took her out for dinner and stopped at a gun shop and picked up a couple pounds of 3f Schuetzen. Maybe next Friday I’ll take her out and try another Walmart for caps lol.
