Got my reworked horn stained and done. Cut the acorn off the end and drove a hand forged twisted staple in it. Rubbed some beeswax in it and she’s good to go. About to start a Buffalo horn kit from scratch.

I'm packing up the ole Mountain Rifle to ship to BPMS. And I was aghast at the cost of packing supplies. A very small roll of bubble wrap was 6 bucks. it would take quite a few of those to wrap this thing up good. Because well you have to pack things like its gonna go through the same fate as the Fed Ex packages in Cast Away! SO, pool noodles are only a buck! Split them suckers down the side and well there ya go, Make sure your duct tape only touches the pool noodle and itself to not take a chance of ruining a finish. Probably better than bubble wrap. I'll fill the box with some other media to take up dead space and then mummify the box in tape. That's the stock, barrel and ram rod with wedges there in that pic.

Set up my old wall tent for the first time since about 1991. It was in remarkably good shape for having been stored in a variety of sheds over the past 33 years. It took me three hours to re-learn how to put it up solo…. I was whooped by the time I was done!

Started getting my stuff together for my camp later this week. I am trying to take as little as possible with me each time. Very very basic minimalist camp. If you’re looking for creature comforts you’d hate my camp. For me it’s buckskins, rifle, horn, pouch and knife. That’s about it. No cot. No chairs. Not even a candle lamp. Bedtime when daylight gone. The only modern item in camp is a cooler with food in it and I keep it out of sight. Even though I’m the only one there.

I tackled a problem with a CVA frontier kit that I'm working on. The Muzzle of this barrel clearly was crowned with the tool at an angle. It dished out one side of the inner crown more on one side than the other. I've been contemplating correcting it for a while and finally decided to take it on with a set of my DIY crowning tools that I made up quite a few years ago to fix sharp crowns that were cutting patches.

When you look at these tools I made you will be horrified at the idea of using these on a barrel, but it worked. These were never intended to correct this type of problem but after contemplating it many times I concluded that with a properly sized guide of wrapped tape it would work. And it did!!

Today I refashioned a cva frontier single trigger. The original is brass and the contact surface was very rough. The spring steel return spring has been hard on the brass. I ordered a trigger from Track and modified it to fit the trigger plate. It's a good mod and the pull is crisp and just right. But, two Flys in the ointment. First, the return spring is a little too long and doesn't bear on the trigger to return it. Not a deal breaker but secondly, the new trigger is just a bit too short. Works fine but too much pressure following through has it clipping over the sear arm and can't return.

This is the same trigger as on the CVA Kentucky so I'll try it on it. And see how it works there.

But, I also ordered a Leman trigger that will work and is long enough to solve the return spring problem. I might have killed two birds with one turd.

Can't believe I spend this much time on these things but I'm getting more efficient at wasting time.

The casting sprue is not yet filed off in the pictures but was only a 3 minute job.

Just a heads up to those who might be interested. Last summer, my boys and I cut, split, shaved off the bark then sealed Osage Orange bow staves. We will be bringing them to the spring national shoot to sell.

Made a replacement loading/wiping stick for my pistol because the one that came with the gun was terrible. Original top and replacement bottom.
