What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Bought a TC 45 barrel. Sending to Hoyt for rebore to 50 fast twist for cast bullet. Talked to Bob yesterday afternoon. Boy, he is a busy guy! Said to write down what I want and doing with the rifle and send a bullet if possible. For those of you that have sent him barrels, do you send money with the barrel? I've read that people do that and he will end back what he doesn't use.

Yesterday, Wednesday, I had the pleasure to shoot muzzle loaders with my friend BigAl, a contributor on this site.
Shooting a flintlock or percussion gun is fun on its own. Shooting with a good friend makes it even better.
I shot with a beautiful, claro walnut stocked, Vincent (or Ohio style) 45 cal, percussion cap rifle. I also brought a 42 inch barrel Schimmel flintlock rifle, but didn't have the time to shoot it.
Al brought a very nice woodsrunner Kibler rifle.
Al is a much more experienced black powder shooter and has given me helpful tips over the last several years. I started this captivating hobby when I was in my 60s. Al has been shooting these historic firearms much longer.
Today, Thursday, I still have a big grin on my face from a Wednesday morning well spent.
This is a photo of the Vincent rifle sent to me by the individual I purchased it from. It was such a nice photo that I used it. I hope I didn't violate any rule by using the photo second hand.

Not sure if it will be a good match, though. Time will tell.

I snuck my nephew visiting from NC out to the range when the women were distracted and introduced him to black powder. It was his first time ever firing a gun and he was thrilled shooting my flintlock, said he loved everything about it right through the cleaning. Hope to get him back out and record it this time - I didn’t want to raise suspicions by going back for my phone!

I shoot at the Ft. Lupton range, home to the Ft. Lupton Muzzleloaders Club. The range is a few hundred yards from the rebuilt old fort.
I go up to Arvada frequently to play with the Jefferson County Community Band. We practice at the Arvada United Methodist Church.

That's a good club and range. I've been a member there for quite a few years. Haven't shot much there this year. Weather, family commitments, etc., etc. Did the Legacy Match though. Got thoroughly whipped by a 90 year old.

Maybe we'll bump into each other sometime.

I hope to be there and,perhaps, compete. Given some health issues, I struggle to shoot standing freehand. At over 77 years of age, there likely will be a class I can shoot in, either leaning on a high stool or shooting from a bench. I'm not ready to stop shooting, regardless of limitations.

The Legacy shoot is for age 75+ and is held at Ft Lupton. It's pretty much unrestricted in terms of shooting positions. Pretty much a bench shoot. There will also be a Legacy Match at the State Shoot which is held at Ft Lupton along with a lot of competitive and non competitive shooting including steel.

There are recurring club bench matches as well as fun shoots at Ft Lupton. Not sure what the schedule is. The website usually has all the club shoots on the calendar.

I started to inlet the double trigger plate, after carefully envisioning how it would fit under the trigger guard and sawing off a part of the rear of the plate. Now, after deepening the hole, I think I should also have sawed some off the other end.

Casted some .340's which is what my Cub seems to prefer using an old DGW mold. The little shears (made in Japan) and probably antique as well is what I use to cut the sprue. Bad part of course is these weigh anywhere from 58 to 61 grains, so not as consistent as the newer Lee molds, oh well....

After 4 years of shooting percussion muzzleloaders and belonging to a ML club, I finally received my first flintlock today! (And my first smoothbore) I got a great deal on a Pedersoli Queen Anne pistol here on the forum and it just arrived! I can't wait to get to the club and try it out with my daughter. This thing throws sparks like a champ too!
