Totally unexpected find yesterday at the local gun show. Matching 1839 date springfield M1816 Type III. I had been looking for an 1816, and never expected to see one at a gun show here. Glad I went.
Are you using the #10 or #11 cap puncher? I make #11 but not sure how they might work In a revolver.Shot my 58 Remi today. I used homemade paper cartridges and homemade caps, 30g by volume 3f schuetzen. 75 yard steel plate was singing!
Where did you shoot?Went shooting over the weekend. Shot my long rifle for the first time. It took a long time because I had to make balls and powder and acquire all the equipment to do so. With the other guns I only got two shots with the flint lock. It was awful hot on the prairie miles from nowhere with no shade but it all worked. First shot was high but the second was 2 inches from the mark. I'm sure I could do better in better weather.
I also shot my TC Hawken with home made powder. I'm happy with the results. Hopefully it will get a little cooler later in the month.
I use the #11 die, my revolvers all have Treso Ampco nipples, rifles too. I have a pistol and rifle range here at the house. I have another range I guess you could call it off the back patio. I have steel in various places out to 75 yards. It’s more for informal shooting and function testing reloads. We have 20 acres surrounded on 4 sides with 340 acres of blm land. Closest house is 5/8 of a mile away. Are you using the #10 or #11 cap puncher? I make #11 but not sure how they might work In a revolver.

Come on out and experience the dream, right after a big snowstorm. I live vicariously as a logger all winter and spring cleaning up trees!Living my dream!
Depends on where you are. I have experience with snow bringing limbs down.Come on out and experience the dream, right after a big snowstorm. I live vicariously as a logger all winter and spring cleaning up trees!
Yeah, it’s got some use on it. Someone cleaned the metal back to white, but the stock seems to have remained untouched. The touchhole has been filled and redrilled. I see a suspicious crescent shaped line on the outside of the breech where a nipple would have been. I’m wondering if the back-to-white cleanup was to soften some pitting from cap splatter erosion. Either way, I don’t think it saw much use. The bore is in just as good of a condition as the stock. Sending the lock off today for a tune up.Holy cow! Was that thing even issued?
Looks like a great place to live Maybe a patch of sanity in a crazy state?I’m in Northern California
Yeah we love it here. We get all 4 seasons. We are surrounded by like minded good people in our area. Most of California is full of good conservative folks, it’s the coastal areas that control the state. Just like Oregon and Washington.Looks like a great place to live Maybe a patch of sanity in a crazy state?
It's the heavy wet stuff that gets us too. Fall before the leaves drop and spring when leaf growth is well started. I'm on a suburban lot so it's not that much to deal with.
Can confirm, central Oregon and eastern are heavily conservative while Portland ruins it for the rest of us. Looks like most of Northern California here too.Yeah we love it here.
