The dixie book says .376. The moulds come in .375 or .380. Which one should I order? Thanks

.380. Lead shrinks as it cools and you want to be sure you have a large enough projectile.

The designated mold size indicates the size the balls should drop from the mold, not the exact size of the mold cavity, so shrinkage is already allowed for. Still, I would go with .380". If cast of pure lead you'll have no trouble seating oversize balls and if you ever decide to get your chambers reamed to full groove diameter of the bore your .380" ball will still be tight, whereas a .375 may not be. I load Hornady .457" balls in my 1860 with chambers reamed to .452" and seating them is no trouble.

I've been casting .375's for my Navy, they work fine. But that's just me. I would agree with the others and load the largest ball you can seat comfortably.
Regardless, you should be able to shave a visible ring of lead while seating the ball.

Go with the .380!

And just to note, that the conversion cylinder for a Navy uses .38 spl just a wobilin' down at .357 :idunno: .

my Navy Arms '51 used a .375 and it shaved a nice ring off the ball, it would probably be best to try and borrow a few of different sizes from folks who have some one hand, and see what works in your gun.

DNS, if a .375 works send me a PM and you can have mine if I can find it, there are no handles and it is a Lyman so you would have to find a set of handles.
