Thinking of buying a Lyman trade rifle for my first flinter. What brand and size flint should I buy for this rifle?.And what site on the net sells these flints. Thanks in advance,Murf :hatsoff:

Hi murf,
How's that sunny state? I use 3/4 inch black English flints from Track in my GPR. They work great  .

Thanks for the help guys,3/4' is the size.Cowpoke it's was about 70 and sunny today.perfect for shooting the holy black. What do you guy's think of the Lyman trade rifle in a flint.I'm on a buget but I want a good shooter and a solid lock. Thanks, murf :hatsoff:

I handled the Trade Rifle once, at the Gun Room in Elk Grove. I really liked the feel of it. It looked and felt as good and solid as my GPRs. I have one GPR in flint. Took some twiking, but now it is a very relible shooter. I think you'll be happy with it.

Cowpoke I forgot your a local boy out here. How's alabama treating you.I bet there more gun friendly out your way.Is there some good places to shoot. Thanks ,murf :hatsoff:

Deer and turkey everywhere. I now live about 5 minutes outside of a national forest. After being in California most of my life, Alabama is great! Heck, you can even get Pyrodex at Wal-Mart. But getting back to the Trade Rifle, check out DNR Sports: http://www.dnrsports.com/acatalog/Lyman_Muzzleloaders.html . $282.87 for thr .54 Trade Rifle flinter. The Gun Room wanted $399 for a .50 percusion.

The Cabelas "hawken" is built by the same folks who build the Lyman and it comes with a set trigger.I bought one in 50 and then got a lyman 54 trade rifle barrel for it and it dropped right in.
Just a thought...

Hey guys, do you use the 3/4"x3/4" or the 3/4"x7/8" flint in your Lyman Trade Rifles? They use the same lock as the GPR don't they?

Use the 3/4 inch X 3/4 inch. If you look at Track of the Wolf, the 3/4 inch square flints are listed for Lyman. I use them in my GPR. I'm not sure if the GPR and the Trade Rifle use the same lock, but they look very close. You can contact Lyman's customer service and they could tell you. Here's their link: http://www.lymanproducts.com/lymanproducts/index.htm .
