What size touch hole have you found to work the best on a Lyman GPR .50 cal. I just received two replacement ones from TOTW and want to enlarge one to see how it works compared to the original

I use a 1/16 inch drill bit for the touch hole in a stainless steel vent liner in all my flintlocks. Good luck. Old Dave

My favorite size is a size 50 bit(70 thousands). I have found it to be the best for me in all of my flinters. It isn't much bigger than a 1/16 bit, but for me it works much better. When I tried larger sizes, I didn't get any better ignition and started to loose a lot more powder.

I have a Lyman GPR .54 flintlock, and 1/16" is not enough for my gun to shoot reliably. I have to go up to 5/64", and even do a little coning on the outside of the hole. After doing that, she goes off every time.

As a reference, the redesigned vent liner TC introduecd a few years ago has a .075" hole and is heavily coned inside and out...(the outside 'cone' effect comes from a very large hex wrench opening that is also beveled on the outside edges to improve the funneling effect. You can see powder perched in the hole...I've used them for a few years now and ignition simply seems instantaneous.

Here's a drill bit conversion chart:
