I recently got my new hawk from JasTownsend and the handle came unfinished. Thought this is a perfect oppertunity to try inlays and finishing. The inlays I want to make are simple so what thickness brass should I get to make them. Was thinking .032 or .063 but I'm not sure. Any advise would be great.

Either is probably okay but if you need to needle file/sand some of it- then the thicker piece might be better.

It really depends on the nature, and shape of the metal inlay. If you have a plain, solid piece, like an oval, then the thinner thickness will work.

However, if you have a finely made cross, or star with multiple thin, fine rays, or some of those fancy artworks that surround brass patch boxes, I would use the thicker metal for it. Using thin metal for fine artwork is very difficult to keep flat, and inletting such a piece can drive you nuts.
