I have a L&R RPL lock that needs a new tumbler. What tools should I use?
I saw TOW had a lock spring compressor, in fact they had two versions. I was thinking of vice grips with wood buffer to protect the spring. Anyway I want to do the job right, so I thought I would ask. I don't mind 20 or 30 bucks for a tool.
Thanks, Ter

If you are going to remove a lock mainspring, the smart way is with a compression tool made for that purpose. One can get by with jerry rigging, but not a good idea. You will need a socket slightly bigger than the tumbler to buck the side plate while you drive the tumbler out and into it. You will need a brass punch for the drive out. Safety glasses are a must!
