I have enjoyed many different targets at various yardages. One of the funest targets I ever shot at was;they had a dead tree limb sticking up out of the ground. You had to place your hat that you had been wearing over the end of the limb.On a string above all this was a poker chip. You slid one of them out so it hung about 1/2" above your own hat.You went back to the stake and shot at the chip.Hit the chip 5 points, hit your own hat minus 2 points, miss everything minus 5 points. That was a fun and challenging shot!
What was the neatest thing you guys have shot at on a woods walk????

Woodpeckers, I love shooting woodpeckers the redheaded ones especially . Nothing will keep your shooting ability sharpened like going out shooting birds with a muzzleloader.

Mine would be "The Post Cut", cut a post in half with the least amount of shots... Simple enough...

Of corse, using a .75 caliber and a pre-shot post helps out some what... :winking: :haha:

Shooting at a playing card, against a log...The only way you could hold that card against the log was with your patch knife....That will get you to try harder.....Lots of swearing tho... :curse:

No problem. You slit the bark and jamb the card in edgewise; then proceed to shoot it into to halves. ::

Maybe I'm a lttle too close to nature, or too PC, but aren't Woodpeckers a Endangered Species or something like that?

When I lived in Louisiana, I used to go dove hunting. But here, in Massachusetts, they're considered a song bird and its illegal to hunt them. They can be a tricky shot.

Not around here, there thicker than Starlings

My favorite vent feather is a blue jay tail feather. I often find them scatterred on the ground after sitting in formerly quiet woods while a jay sits in a tree 40 feet away scolding and chattering at me. They usually disappear after the first shot - mostly. ::
