attached is a picture of the bore and breach plug juncture of a CVA double rifle i just acquired. the previous owner sold it because there was a range rod with Jag and patch stuck breach deep in one barrel. I got that out and cleaned up the bores. every time i pushed the patch to the breach it would get stuck. did some beveling on the rear of the jag and it helped.
treated the breach end with rust blaster gel and then jb bore paste.
when done i scoped it and this is what was causing the hang up. have never encountered anything like it!
rifling at top, canal and then breach plug face. all i can think is, "what were they thinking ?"

over the years i have had many CVA guns pass through my hands, probably a good thing i didn't have a bore scope until recently.

I always though that would cause gasses to leak out the threads. Maybe they decided that was too much work and wrapped it with Teflon tape

That gap isn’t a good thing since it traps fouling in there. Is it the same in both barrels?

Once the fouling fills the gap it will not catch the patches. I will be fine.

I've had a couple of TC guns like that. At least they're a lot easier to fix than a double. You've got your work cut out for you if you attempt to repair that one!
