Made up some paper cartridges this morning, packed up the Bess, drove out to the range...closed. New this year, closed on all holidays.

Happy 4th of July

Beautiful day at the range. Shooting my .45 Calibre Tennessee Mountain Rifle

I’m setup in the shade at the 100 yrd range. Off in the background you can see my dad shooting one of my .54’s, at the 50 yrd range. He’s thinking of building a new gun and was wondering about either a 42” barrel or a 36”. So for today he’s he’s shooting my .54 Tennessee Mountain Rifle…I hope I convinced him to go with the 36”.

.54 calibre on the left, .45 calibre on the right. This was shot offhand at 50 yrds.

It would be much more exciting if it were 100 yrds off hand, but still not bad.

That's some pretty awesome shooting in my opinion. Only thing I shot yesterday was this. Half pound of goex 1f. Does not belong to me but is here to get
some much needed repairs and a serious facelift then back to Nebraska. You can see one of the trunions is failing. Tied it down with several straps before firing as well as getting it well away from anything that could be harmed. Couldn't resist on the 4th.

Just my personal opinion but that cannon looks like an accident waiting to happen.

It has issues, but does as I said not belong to me. The guy that owns it has been shooting it for years without any issues till that trunnion started to give away. I have a friend who's a master welder and fabricator who's going to look at it and we'll make some determinations whether it can be safely fixed. Personally I think that barrel is solid and is not a problem. The rest is iffy at best.
