Is there anyone out there who makes wheellock pistols or longarms for sale, and not just rough cast kits?

John Buck does, though I just talked to him, and he's currently making 3, so it would probably be a few months before he could make one - not as ornate as some other crafters, but he has a good reputation, and seemed to have good pricing: http://www.musketmart.com/

Armin Konig makes them as well - some examples of his work are below. He makes museum quality replicas of just about anything - a truly top notch craftsman, though at top notch pricing: http://www.engerisser.de/Bewaffnung/weapons/Firearms.html

I have no idea anything about this company, but they are apparently from the Czech Republic, and appear to make fine quality guns - I'd love more information on them if anyone knows. http://www.armart.antiquanova.com/firearms.htm

I don't know much about this person either, but he's got several pictures of one of his wheellocks on his website: http://texasarmyfifeanddrum.com/photoalbum_wheellock.html

I also have several sources for authentic wheellocks (mostly auction sites, but some for sale outright). If you'd like them, let me know. I'm still playing with the idea of building one, and this site is making me more and more inclined to do so, but I may purchase one as well. Please keep us updated on what you go with (especially if you find another builder).

This site states of their matchlock "These are made exclusively for us by a professional gunsmith in eastern Europe, specializing in replicas of early firearms, primarily matchlocks, wheellocks and flintlocks." http://www.historicenterprises.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=133&c=24

I sent them an email last year inquiring about having them make a wheellock, but they never really got back to me (or I deleted their response), but it may be worth pursuing.

:hmm: You will find there are some other builders out there---but you have to decide how "fancy" you want that wheelock to be. The costs for that type of machining and polishing can run quite high. If of course you wish to collect then I would guess the cost would not matter. I have seen one of John Buck's wheelocks and he does do very nice work and his costs are reasonable---John has made an arquebus for me and I truly enjoy it--plus the waiting period was not 1-2 years---. Contacting him is real easy and he is a nice person to chat with. I am going to have him make me another matchlock, hopefully buy the summer. :hatsoff:
