I just mic'd my barrel of the gun I'm working on and it measures right on at .600. Not the .620 I assumed it would be.

I don't mess with lead, so I don't mold my own balls. I figure the best way to start for a load would be a .575 ball with a .028 patch. I also want to use an "A" wad between the powder and patch but it seems the closet size is .620. Not sure if thats to big and will give problems with loading.

Thats what mine is. I use a .600 rd ball with a thin patch or no patch and just wads. I think a .595 would work better, but i have a .600 mould so make due with it.

I had two, one miked .615 and the other .625--I bought the smaller one first and laid in a supply of .595s. Then I sold it and still have the .595s--they worked real good in the .615, but I need a much thicker patch for the .625...have not had time to play with it much yet!

GM .62cals mic .610...and in asking them about it, they didn't hesitate to confirm, yes, that's the size they build them.

I tried Warren .600's and threw most of them in the trash as they simply wouldn't fit, even with a .010" patch...QC on the sizing must have been terrible.

I tried Rush Creek .595s with a .015", they give good enough accuracy at 50yds to take a deer no problem, but they thumb start so easily I'm experimenting to tighten up the group some.

Tried some .020" patches I had and they were extremely hard to get down the bore, to much work to seat them.

Going to try some .018" pill tick tomorrow morning and see if that's the magic.

Yeah, I just ordered Rush Creek .595s and both .018 and .020 patches. My avg muzzle loader shot is basically 40 yards so if I can get this to shoot well at 50 yards I'll be very happy with it.

Be sure to try all the little twists with loading smoothies. patch and no patch, over-shot cards on top of the ball and no, wads & cards, etc. ad nauseum. Never know what a gun will like best...they can litterally throw you a curve! :hatsoff:
