Beginner boolit caster here. Where do I get rid of the dross floating on top of my melted lead?

I use a bent stainless table spoon, skim it off and put it in an old soup can which eventually goes in the trash.

Times three with Hawkeye2 except I used a coffee can. I realize coffee cans have started to go the way of the dodo bird and much coffee comes in plastic these days or in my case now most often as beans in a bag.

Cat food can. Harder to dump over, get a new one every day. Burn marks give my workshop table that "vintage" look ...only possible by repeated goof ups over many years.

wife calls me an "old goat" because i save every TIN can that cycles through the kitchen, just for purposes such as this.
i have a spoon dipper that Lyman used to sell and after fluxing the dross goes into a can. invariably i get a little lead so after the can is mostly full i will poke a hole in the bottom to one side and heat the whole thing with a weed burner. the orphan lead runs out and the dross stays.

There is still lead mixed in with the dross you skim off. Put it in a can and then re-melt it when you accumulate a lot. When the impurities float to the top, re-skim and use the "waste lead" to cast more balls.

I do the same as most here do. And yes I’m a tin can hoarder also.

We use a foil container that you get from the Chinese take-away. It's placed under the spout and hols a lot of dross. When it cools down you can just close it over and add it to the metal dumpster at the local recycling centre.
