Where to find pillow ticking?

It's been a while...Since the last post I have been playing around w my 36 poor boy. The patches I have been using were .015 100 percent cotton and a 70/30 cotton material that has some stretch to it. The best at 70 yards was about 3 inches the average was close to 4 inch...I took some pillow ticking patches from my 50 that I think are .018 and I got a 1.5 inch three shot group right off the go! Before that I tried all loads of 3f from 15-50 grains and settled on 20 as my goto load w .015..I even tried some ground up oatmeal with poor sucess and it stinks when fired out of the gun :td: I was beginning to think I had gone :youcrazy: as I have shot about 2lbs of lead outta the gun.
Now the question, I cannot find pillow ticking. Any body know where I can buy the stuff reasonable as I like to cut my own patches. Joeanne fabrics did not have it here in Meadville. The stuff at joeannes was either .o15 or .025. I doubt I could get .025 down the barrel w/ a .350 ball.
btw the looks i got from the ladies when I was standing in the store w my mic measuring the thickness of the fabric was intresting.

Why the long range? "70 yards". I thought that .36 cal. were for squirrels an rabbits at around 25 to 30 yards max.

Here in nw pennsylvania it's mighty hard to get within 35 yards of pasture grizzly with the grass so short. The light loads of 15 grains will knock tin cans over all day at 35 yards...I am just seeing what the gun is capable of. For tree rats my shots won't be farther than 35 yards....If it shoots a ragged hole at 70 yards tree rats will be no problem at 35 :thumbsup: Hope to get a turkey this fall with the gun as well.

Locate a Joe Anns fabric store near you. I purchased 2 yards of different thickness today.

I found it at Hobby Lobby, a big hobby store near here. Not sure why they carry it but that was the place recommended by my local fabric store and they did have it so you might try a hobby store.

The foreign made ticking is generally too weak for shooting patches, and probably for ticking too. Since all I see in Chinese I have switched to denim or real linen.
Drill in another fabric that will work if think enough.

Any good fabric store and some craft stores should have it as well as Walmart. It doesn't have to be pillow ticking though. just needs to be a good strong tight weaved natural fabric like cotton.

JoAnns Fabricks should have several options. They should have had pillow ticking or mattress ticking. The ladies should have directed you to the utility fabricks. My personal favorite patching material is pocket drill (or drill cloth). Drill is a 100% cotton material that after washing is 0.017" thick. Be sure to wash your patching material to remove the sizing. Dry the fabric on hot in your dryer to shrink the fibers to tighten the weave.

Stay away from any synthetic blend. The blends do your barrel any good unless you want cleaning problems getting the synthetics out of the rifling.

Any full service fabrick store should have 100% cotton ticking, denim or drill. If you want to try linen, make sure you use a tight weave linen from 100% flax.

Actually, finding pillow ticking is getting harder to find in East Texas.

I went to a shop and the owner brought me 2 yards from her special stash at home. She said she could not get it, JoAnn's had none and neither did Walmart.

Hancocks fabrics around here is where I buy my patching material. I've found that it's best to use 100% cotton material and that there is "pillow" ticking and "mattress" ticking which are not the same as pillow ticking, at least at this store, is a 50-50 cotton/synthetic blend and much thinner than the thicker mattress ticking which actually is 100% cotton. Used to you could buy cotton pillow ticking at the Walmarts around here but they seem to have either gotten rid of their fabric departments all together or seriously downsized them into just a few selections of polyester. But maybe that's not the case in your neck of the woods, check and see.

Does anyone here actually know someone who really makes their own pillows?
Except for some novelty clothing and our own obscure purposes, I wonder why the stuff is still on the retail market at all. :idunno:
Now, go out and start hoarding all you can while it is still available. :shocked2: :rotf:
