I am starting the process of thinking about building a flintlock rifle. I am getting the books and videos that have been recommended in various threads. Recommendations were made to get some parts catalogs, but I am not sure which ones. I am familiar with the catalogs from Dixie Gun Works and Track of the Wolf, but are there others that are better. Just some recommendations from those of you who build and dream of building would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Knapper

Hi Knapper,

Along with Dixie and TOW, I found that Pecatonica River Long Rifle (http://www.longrifles-pr.com/pr/default.htm) has a pretty good catalog that includes some historical facts dispersed through out.

Hope this helps,
L.B.

Muzzleloader Builders Supply has been less expensive than TOW.. ::Jack Garner is also less expensive...I have not sprung for a cataloge from The Rifle Shoppe, ::but I will before my next project is started..

The best catalog to buy is the Track of the Wolf's. It give you full size pictures of their parts. Muzzleloader Bulder's Supply also has a good catalog.

The prices make me laugh. Some have lower prices on the parts but high shipping costs. Others parts are more but they charge you the actually shipping cost. Just different ways to "skin a cat".

Muzzleloader Builder's Supply has a really good catalog with a lot of historical context stuff in it, and color photos. Track's is really good for full size photos and historical data, too. Tennessee Valley Manufacturing (Jack Garner) and Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading, both in Corinth, MS, are also good. Log Cabin Supply has a lot of books.

hey knapper ,good to see you back
fwiw get a drill that has a bubble level if you don't have a press, and have plenty of 1/16" drill bits on hand , youll need'em
most all of the tools i used to build ,i either had already, or bought at a local wood working shop,or home depot.
three other must have items are a mainspring vise,1/8x24 tap and if you use the white lightning touch hole liner you will need a 5/16x32tap ,1/4x24 for others
