I've heard that white vinegar can be used to strip bluing off a barrel, is this a wipe-on and off kind of thing or a soak-it-overnight kind of thing?

Yes, I've done it, multiple items, the whole gun and not just the barrel, and it works absolutely great. Just heat it up a bit and immerse your blued item in it and it shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes or so. Will require some steel-wooling to finish the job.

I'd post pics of one or more of my results here, but they're all "unmentionables". 😄

Much easier and much less toxic than naval jelly or debluing solution, and certainly much less messy than naval jelly.

A LOT safer than pouring Liquid Plumber onto the blued item. I've seen LGS with a bluing operation do this, BUT they are also working against time in many cases. It works fast, but the safety concerns are (imho) only those that should be used in a professional shop, NOT at home.

Evaporust works in 24 hours and is much less toxic IF the much less costly vinegar fails to complete the task.
