i have a 1858 remington sold by lyman. i bought it about 1978 in kit form. who made them for lyman?

Lyman makes their own line. I don't know if they are currently making BP Revs or kits anymore, but they made good ones.
I think they may just make the GretPlains riflr, Pistol...and maybe some ML hunters.
If you have the 1858 Lymans you are fortunate.
Other Mfg. parts may retro fit, but I haven't that info.

Actually, Investarms of Italy makes the Lyman line. I don't know if they made the revolvers or not though. Might have been rebranded Ubertis, considering they were a good revolver and the Piettas of the time had some quality control issues.

If your Lyman 1858 has a dovetailed front sight and a dovetailed loading lever catch then its made by Uberti......There should be a "U" symbol with a gear wheel and an Octogon surrounding the "U" somewhere on the gun....Actually its a picture of a "U"inside of the end of a Colt navy barrel...............If its a Pietta it will have a stud front sight and a stud loading lever latch ,both of which are fuse welded to the barrel.................Bob

I've got 2 lyman revolvers one is 1858 Pietta and the other is 1860 Uberti. I guess they bought from both. If it is Pietta it should have a *** somewhere. All the info posted about the Uberti and Pietta are correct. I replaced parts for both from VTI, with most as drop in fit. The parts are good (no junk) with fast shipping and excellent customer service.

I just found out that Armi San Paolo/Euroarms made the 1858 Rems for Lyman or also did...they have the smaller frame the same size as the 1861 original 1858 model Remingtons. The frame in front of the cylinder is straight or not cut out as is the 1858(1863) models, no barrel threads showin'. Like the Beals or 1st Model 1858. Uberti parts will interchange with the ASP's.
