Since I already know it all :shocked2:  I rarely start a thread looking for answers. :yakyak: :rotf:
Enney how, I do know I can order from Jeff Tanner and probably will soon. But, I have been looking for a .590 rb mould to use with my DOM barreled 20 ga. fowler. There just isn't such a creature commercially made that I can find.
I don't use the fowler as much as originally planned, things have changed in my life. But I still would like to get away from the hammering and pounding to seat the .600 balls.
What size do most of y'all use? And, any ideas why there isn't a .590" rb mould on the market?

Never found a .590" mold listed anywhere, but Lyman makes, or did make, a .598" round ball mold and that's only a terrier hair difference! Try to track one down. Lord knows how many are out there but they offered the size for decades! Good luck on thy adventure! :haha:

Larry Callahan could also make you a .590  I have one of his and one of Tanners. Both are good molds and both you will have a sprue to cut. Good luck to you whichever way you venture

I don't know what the actual bore of your DOM 20 guage is but a regular 20 guage bore is .615".

My tubing catalog shows several different size tubes who's wall thickness results in a theoretical ID of .625" so I'm guessing that your guns bore is somewhere around there.

Anyway, once upon a time, a long time ago (2005) Lyman offered single cavity molds that were .600 diameter (#2645600) and .610 diameter (#2645610).

I think either of these could be used with a .625 diameter bore. It would be worth checking the actual bore size before ordering the mold though.

I haven't micked the bore but I do know, my cast .600 balls with ticking will only go down with mucho hammering. Lee mould. I can get by at the range with hammering and swabbing but it takes a lot of the fun out of the process.

Now holt on just a minute!....I thought I had the franchise on doing things like that

Sounds like your 20 may be closer to a 22 gauge.

An outfit that I have not used called NEI Handtools (neihandtools.com) advertises both iron and aluminum molds in both .580 and .592 - but it seems like their prices make Lyman look inexpensive. I suggest calling Tanner.

Rifleman I have a 590 rapine mold that I got in a trade some years back(2 or 3)maybe .not the bag mold kind but the one with wood handles. Its has been used very little or so it appears .it reads 590305 on the blocks and it mikes real close but I can cast up a few balls just to make sure its right.
I can send a picture when I have time.Curt 574 825 9853

Things to try  bare ball nested into wadding,I like greased tow,waspnest,jute/hemp fibers,or dog hair.
.58 ball(.562) in thick patch or paper cartidge.
At 50 yards a patched ball outshoots a wadded with me shooting and aiming, but at 25 yards or so I stay in close to the same size groups patched or wadded.
