taking a cleaned and lubed rifle to the range for a new shooting session ....

1. clean the pan and touch hole, 40 grains or so down the tube (no patch or wad), powder in the pan, fire to clean out the barrel oil from the last cleaning

2. THE DUTCH WIPE - one patch lightly coated with dutch moose milk, pushed/pulled through the barrel - ONCE

3. toothpick in the touch hole, powder charge, dutch dry lube patch strip over the barrel, short seat the ball w/sprue up to just under the muzzle, cut off the excess patching, ball seater to push down 6", smooth ram to seat on the charge, pull out the pick, powder in the pan, ready/aim/fire

4. go back to 2 and start over again 'til the session is over.

5. when the session is over, i'll do a dutch wipe - then at home i do a full cleaning with dutch moose milk followed by an oil lube and leave the patch and rod down the barrel. "waterless" is the way to go, at least for me. no muss, no fuss, no concerns with full stocks and pinned barrels.

there's SO much more to discuss and i left out a lot of info on purpose, sorry - if y'all haven't yet done so, get the dutch black powder accuracy package.

as always, ymmv.

Has anyone tried using baby wipes or hand wipes for wiping the barrel between shots? Cut down to size they should last a while.

there are more than a few "camps" with regards to patching and wiping materials and processes.

i'm firmly in the dutch camp that sez *everything* matters with regards to ball patches and wiping patches. ball size and weight and obturation is also critical to accuracy consistency.

there is no question that the wipe between shots is Mandatory (ok, 'cept for that 2nd possible hunting follow up shot). how best to do that is the nut to first understand, then crack.

there is much to learn about all of the above, and whence done, the processes involved for a consistent shot-to-shot accuracy has everything to do with *uniform and controlled tolerances*. the rest is up to your shooting form.

if you think about, that is just SO logical - and true.

as always, to the nay sayers, ymmv. :hatsoff:
