I once put an Osage Orange buttplate on a rifle. Worked just fine. You can also just put a toe of OO on the end of the stock. I know some posts say breaks and wood is rare but it is a fact, walnut will break easily. Do yer own thang.

I also almost always load with butt on my boot to avoid damage and mud. I'm much too accident prone for a wood plate. Mine would have to be metal or rubber. When I look at my wood handled tools I notice many have damage at the end of the wood.

I never meant to come across as it can't happen. Its just i think that big toe without protection is begging to get broke. I get that and agree. But my stock don't have that and i know to be careful, that i am 100% of the time with any gun. And it's not as common as crap i loaded a ball without powder happens way more often. So it don't happen everyday :).

IMO having a stock like mine it's a concern. Having that pointed toe is a problem. And there's no knock on any rifle.

I got into making traditional bows. Not sure that's technically correct as they was of my own design. And i changed it with each bow i made (total of 3 LOL). Once i had one i really liked. I decided to build a nicer one so i chose Wenge and blood wood as a lam to strengthen the riser. My hurt shoulder got much worse so i bailed on the bow after i built the riser. That's where the Wenge came from. And it's kinda cool i'm using a part of a bow i never built. But that's a after thought i used it because i had it :).

Here’s the bow I settled on. It shoots really well and is very light weight.

Just some history lol. This bow is Zebra and blood wood with elm limbs.
Very Nice , quite beyond me .

I know it's been awhile. I have been bouncing back and forth on restocking the Renegade. But i did buy a sheet of Brass and cut out a butt plate. That fits and works pretty good it's just a flat butt plate.

Thanks guys
