I have a friend who cuts trees for a liveing and brought me some River Birch . I thought about makeing a bullet board and a fire board from this wood. I need some ideas about size and thicknes for these items. I have a 45 cal flint lock that I want to make the bullet board for . How long -wide and thick does a fire board need to be? Thanks for any help. Mudd Turtle.

Yeah, a half inch or less is plenty thick for a bullet board.

I have no idea what a "fire board" is, so couldn't say how big a piece of wood you need for one!

If it's just been cut, you need to let it dry for at least a year, preferably two or more. Depends upon the thickness of the wood. Let it season before you try to cut it to thickness.

My grandparents had one that granddad made. Wasn't anything fancy but it did the job in summer.
