Looking for some opinions here. I've heard of using a ball of wool over the powder for both round ball and shot. It should be less flammable than tow and I was told it was a good cushion. Before I try it I hoped to get some insight.

I used wool in the old scattergun, but is not easily available to me now ( don't shear sheep anymore). I use paper wasp nest and at times have used green leaves. I found an abandoned hornets nest last year room hunting and it works great.

If you have scrap wool fabric, it can be folded into an acceptable wad. I wouldn't buy new wool fabric to make into wads. If you are worried about flammability, the flame resistant baby flannel can be used for wadding and cleaning patches.

So a ball of raw wool about the size of an acorn would work over powder? Would it also work well over shot?

I thought this might be a great idea. Here's the link from Amazon:

Like I said; I thought it might be a good idea until I read the comments. One of them mentioned that it had some dung in it and that the odor was really bad.

I'm not interested in handling anything with dung in it. So I'll continue to use pre-cut wads.

Bags of raw wool (gallon size) can be purchased at F & T Fur Harvesters for under $4.00. Just enter wool in the search box and it can be found. It’s clean, used for adding sent to the wool for a hole set trap.
