I got the call from Toni. My TVM Southern Rifle kit shipped out today. It's even a week ahead of schedual. Matt and Toni are great to deal with . now I just have to get through the next 2 days :haha:

Hey Captain, While you're waiting for it, why not give us a few details about that kit. Tell us what caliber it is, how long's the barrel, and which ignition did you pick? A lot of us might be interested. Le Grand

wooooooHooooo Great choice for new rifle. Take your time and it will make a great rifle. I have one in .40 in flint and it will clover leaf at 50 yds off a bench. Wish I could hold close to that off hand. Still get some quarter size holes at 25 yds. Just wish we had some tree rats to hunt down here. Guess ground bunnies will have to do but they have short tails.
Have fun and good luck
Fox

It's the Southern Rifle, .36 cal., 42" long hammock barrel, Chambers Siler flintlock, #4 Davis triggers, in a plain mapel stock with iron furniture. Looks like this... http://www.avsia.com/tvm/south.htm

What exactly are the dofferences between the TVM Southern Mountain Rifle and the TVM Tennessee Mountain Rifle? I have an old DGW Tennessee Mountain Rifle and would like to collect the Tennessee/Southern Mountain Rifles. To me, the TVM Southern Mountain Rifle looked more like my DGW than the TVM Tennesse did.

Well you better take a road trip next weekend up to Kalamazoo Michigan for all the fooferah you need for a new rifle gun :) Have fun...mark

moved to "non-muzzleloading discussions" huh?. I guess getting a new muzzleloader has absolutely nothing to do with muzzleloaders :hmm:.

With all due respect, the post was moved because it was about you getting a new gun, not the subject of "muzzleloading", per se. If you were discussing the weapon itself, loading it, shooting it, or anything specific about the act or activity of Muzzleloading, it most likely would not have been moved.

For example: Quite often we see posts about a gun builder, like... "Does anyone know John Doe's phone number?" These types of things get posted in a category like "Smoothbore" because the builder makes them, when in fact the post has nothing to do with smoothbores. It's about locating a person - not muzzleloading itself.

I admit it's hard sometimes to know where to put a post. If I'm going trekking with a new flintlock, do I post in Flintlock or Trekking? Sometimes we wait to see what the discussion develops into before deciding if it needs moving. It's not an exact science, but we're trying to keep things in places where people would look for information about a given subject.

If necessary, we can continue this discussion in "Using the Forum".

Josh,
Congrads on your new rifle. Real happy for you. I know you pulled out a lot of hair and lost a lot of sleep over which rifle. From your determination and permission from the little lady, you made the right choice  . By the way, what are you getting the wife? :rotf:

Caveman,
It sounds like your pretty Pumped about the new Muzzleloader.Good luck with it..I'd like to see some pictures when you get it..If possible. :v

The most noticeable differences are the butt shape (TN is narrower and more curved) and the furniture. The Southern also has more drop.
The both start as a poor boy version and can be upgraded as much as you want. We can also change some parts to suit what you want.
