I have been drooling over all the wonderful pictures of these fine matchlocks and wheel locks for a while now...and I must say it wears on a person.

I am of the mind that I would really like to have a matchlock! I already do F&I reenacting and would like to possible expand to an earlier french colonial period (maybe even Champlain or La Salle!!). As such I would like to have a Matchlock for fun, new impressions, and cause they are cool!

I am not a builder of guns, nor do I have the tools or mechanical know how to build a functioning gun (though I did consider it). So my question is...who makes matchlocks? Can anyone recommend a good builder? I am looking for something simple, and correct for French 1665-1700 time period. Christmas is coming and I would like to explore the option of santa bringing me a matchlock!

Thanks everyone.

You need to PT PitchyPine. He might be talked into making one for you. Also there are several makers out there depending on how much you would like to spend.

Saw Pitchy's work and it looks wonderful!! I would definately be interested if he does build to sell.

I am not looking for a rifle Shopee $1200 gun or anything. Just something simple to get me started in the matchlock world and allow me to use it for early french colonial interpertation at events.

I`m not building any more right now but am honored that ya all even mentioned my name in the company of so many other fine builders.
I have a couple buddies that i have already promised if i build another they were first in line.
Has anyone ever thought about using an existing rife and re- doing it and converting it into a matchlock.

The man I heartly recommend is John Buck. I have a Matchlock Musket and a Serpentine Lock Arquebus from him. After talking with him last Sunday, we are also going over the fine details of a Matchlock\Flintlock Bastard Musket design that he will be building for me.

He is a really nice guy to talk to and will bend over backwards to make what you are looking for. He has already built Louis XIV type Matchlocks so the time period that you are looking for should be ok. John also will help you build around your budget.

Good Luck!
