By mistake I ordered the wrong size flints. They are a little too small. They are 5/8 x 3/4, should be 3/4 x 7/8. Is there any trick that I can make them work???................Daniel

Might if you shim so it strikes the frizzen in the right place. A piece of leather behind is good.

I generally put a short piece of leather "shoelace" material behind my flint when it wears down and is getting a little bit short to keep the gap between the edge of the rock and the face of frizzen as small as possible (1/16" or so...) when the lock is at half-cock.

If you ordered them from Track of the Wolf, they will exchange for the right size. I have done so myself.

Thanks all for the responses. It looks like my problem is being solved. A member of this board has need of the flints I have and will trade me for the ones I need. I love this site as the members are very helpful. Cheers....................Daniel

I might suggest too that you look for a living history group, native American reenactment group or survival group etc. that sets up in your area and has a couple of flint knappers. They are usually into making arrowheads or spearpoints and such and just randomly flake almost perfect rifle flints onto the ground all over the place. I have bought for $2 a box of scrap from which I have salvaged over 100 great flints in every size. We have no flint in our area so they carry it in here for their use.
