I am probably among the lucky few that can shoot right in the back yard. The attached picture is the setup I have and I can take two steps out of the basement door and be shooting. It consists of 8" plates, 3" steel tubes, a 6" swinger, 2 3" swingers, a railroad spike and a 4" swinger, some loose re-bar in a vertical/horizontal setup, and finally, another railroad spike, a 3"x6" swinger and a 6" square swinger. Shooting at railroad spikes at 40 yds will either teach you to squeeze or increase the frustration to an unbearable level . Anyone else have pictures of their setup, or a description. The area behind the targets is a steep earthen creek bank, which makes a good backstop.

What a dream to be able to shoot BP in the back yard! If I tried that I would probably hit a neighbors horse, llama, house, barn or trailer not to mention seting the dry grass on fire.

I actually have a short but bumpy drive to an open shooting area but it has become over run with shall we say less than trustworthy shooters and I refuse to go during the weekend for fear of my life! The stories I could tell... :curse:

The best area however, is Sunvalley Shooting Park about 45 minutes from my house where I hold a membership. There I can shoot anything I own but only out to 100 yards max.

Mine is a step or three out my back garage door. I have 25, 50 and 75 yard backstops. The "range" is in the woods, so the targets are sorta in the dark and it's hard ligning up the open sights.
I'd send pictures, but I have a new digital camera and am only on page 5 of the 175 page easy to use manual. :curse:

I also am blessed. I bought 4 acres across the road from my house 2 years ago and put a 50yd range on it, 25,50 yd target holders and a 8" gong and a old tank to shoot at. Then last year I bought 160 acres, 1 mile from my house and as of now I have 2 woods walks on it,both are about 1/3 of a mile each, one with 12 targets and the other has 13, all novelty shoot of some kind ranging from 18 yds to 120 yds. The good Lord has also blessed me with good friends and we get together as often as we can to shoot.

You guys make me sick! I currently have to go to the game land shotgun range here in south Jersey. It's okay but I long for a place where I could shoot from the back yard. God Bless.

WHEN I get our house finished I WILL again build me a shooting range, altho not as good as we had on our farm. That one was a tidy 520 yards and I utilized it at least 3 times a week year round. The one at our new house will only be 100 yds. If I were really ambitious I could clear the back fence line and reach 700+ yards...but I ain't that ambitious. Toooooo much timber in the way! Right now I'm relegated to a 50 yard path thru the woods "range", but what the heck, it works and I can at least site in my too few acquistions, when I steal the time.

I used to be able to shoot out the back door ( and the front door a few times) when I lived at home.I used to sit on the bench by the back steps and shoot apples off the tree with my .22. We set up 25, 50 and 100 yard targets in the pasture and had a 40 acre CRP field behind it.There aren't any houses for almost a mile in that direction. Now, I moved about 30 miles away and my sister lives there. So, my bro-in-law gets more range time. And I have to drive. At least I finally got him shooting a front stuffer. OK, so it's an in-line, but it's a start. :curse:

I am on 12 acres in a rural area and can shoot to 150 yds. We built a dump 12'Lx6'H at the end of the field and there is a railroad track behind. In the unlikely event a shot missed the backstop, the track bed will catch any strays plus no one lives behind us anyway.
