Hi. I shipped a packages to MikinPa. I shipped it Priority 0n Dec 16th. My problem is that the slow delivery causes doubt about me. Mike can, rightly, ask himself, "did he really ship it or have I been taken?" I have offered him his money back if not received by Monday … but I ask "where is the package?" Dale
Did you not ship with a tracking#??? Tracking # would verify you shipped it & remove all doubt & you would know where it is in the shipping chain. If you shipped it Priority Mail the tracking number will be on your receipt. Enter that # on the USPS tracking site & you can find out where your package is held up. Send the # to who you shipped to & he can track it all the way to his door. I wouldn't give anybody their money back without confirming, through tracking, that he didn't already get the item & is just saying it didn't arrive. You also get $50 insurance automatically with Priority & you can up that value to what you want or need for an extra fee. If you use the system properly, you won't have the concerns you expressed.

Where you live has a lot to do with how good or bad delivery service is with the post office, UPS or FedEx. Where I live FedEx is the Worst. In past 20 plus years they have been 100% screwed up with every delivery. Up until the past 3 months the USPS has been great. Last few packages were shipped 3 day priority with tracking number, took a month to get. Tracking only said in transit. Mailed a flat rate box to friend this week, due to arrive 1/4/21, he got it yesterday. So far UPS has also been great. It depends on the location and management in that area. I will not do business with anyone that ships only FedEx, good friend in different part of country will only buy if shipped FedEx.

I've done that many times .. this time it took so long I mislaid the receipt. But believe it or not, about a year ago I did that, went to local PO where they looked it up. and replaced the MO for free. I simply cannot find the receipt. However, I recently shipped an item to the Northeast [I am in Oklahoma] and the tracking told me where it was, supposedly, but it was delivered while tracking said it was in Dallas. Hmmm. My fault for losing the receipt but not my fault that a small priority package, packed and addressed by the local postal clerk has not arrived in 16 days. It is a small town PO and there was no one around so she did me a favor and packed it in a priority pack and wrote the address, which I checked carefully. I have had a Postal money order torn in half, delivered half to the recipient and tracking told me it was delivered, He sent it back to me in a regular mail envelope. Then the other half was also delivered to him a week later. I got my money back from PO but this transaction took over a month. I did get my pistol in about 45 days. [I was surprised and pleased that the seller held it for me during all this] Yes, I am at fault and I have agreed to return Mike's money if he does not get the package by Monday. I am 88 years old and never lost a package in the mail until this past year [with no such thing as tracking most of my life]. There is something fundamentally wrong with USPS. I know and appreciate our local people but we have a major problem. Dale BTW: the package contained a simple cotton item of clothing.

I started a thread last September about shipping BP revolvers that became very interesting. This is the name:
Mailing BP revolvers
but I don't know how to do a link yet. Stupid since I retired as a PM for IT projects. Oh well, professional side of brain shut off at retirement

Here's a link to the Mailing BP revolvers thread:

TO ALL: When your on a page on your web browser, the address of what your looking at will show up, usually at the top of the screen. It usually starts with, "https:........"
If there is a article you want to make a link to, first go to it and open it.
Next, find the web address at the top of the screen.
Select it. It should "highlight" or change color.
Once it does this, use the "COPY" feature on the computer or smart phone. This copies the web address into a temporary memory on your computer or phone.

Come back to the place you want to post the link. When you get to the place you want the link to appear, use the, "PASTE" feature to paste the complete address into your post. Do not change anything in the address. Instead, hit the "RETURN" to get to the next line in your post.

When you enter your post into the MLF for everyone to see, the forums computer will see the web address you pasted and set it up so it will become a selectable link anyone can click on to open.

I have shipped many firearms of all types back to their owners after working on them for over 20 years now. I usually ship via USPS Priority Mail and have never had a problem. I always declare to USPS if it is a firearm on one of their PS-1508 forms, and don't if it is just a stock. I also have used FedEx Ground on many occasions at the client's request. I also declare to FedEx that I am shipping a firearm when it is one, again, never a problem. The clerk is often stumped when they can't find a 'firearms' category on their computer screen for FedEx Ground shipments. A supervisor told me once that in those cases they choose 'machine tools' because anybody in their system could read that there is a firearm in that box, but won't pay much attention to one shown as containing 'machine tools'. Failure to declare to any shipper that the box contains a firearm can be cause for dismissal of the claim should there be damage or loss. It is always better to play by the rules, fellas.

Just for info: the small package [cotton clothing item] I mailed from Oklahoma to Northeast got there today. It was mailed priority on Dec 15 [I wrote 16 earlier but that was wrong]. It got there on the 18th day?? Priority? Next time I will save my money and ship parcel post or UPS. Dale

UPS stores will not take guns in any shape, form or age. UPS will accept them at their distribution centers (45 miles away from me) or you can do this: Go online to UPS, buy and print a label, put it on your package and take it to the UPS store. I have done this and they took it without asking or even blinking when I handed them the package.

I still prefer USPS and no you don't have to tell them what is in the package and no they cannot ask! They can only ask they usual questions about hazardous or prohibited (muzzleloaders aren't) contents. Adult signature required
I've never had to tell the UPS store what is in the package. The USPS neither. FEDEX no experience.

I am moving this to the Firearms For Sale section because it is asking about shipping firearms.

After 36 responses to the question about how to ship firearms in the US, I think the answers given pretty much answer the OP's question so I'm going to close the post.
Because this question comes up often, I'm going to make this thread a sticky at the top of the Firearms For Sale Index page so it is always available to folks to read.
