I purchased this gun about 2 years ago on this forum. The Green mountain smoothbore barrel was new at the time and has been well cared for since -- never once even waiting 1 night before cleaning thoroughly. I'll see if I can get a bore light soon for a better look there.
There are a couple non-functional issues, which is why I'm discounting the price a ways. First, I've put a few marks on the stock. I've hunted with it and taken it out at least 10 times to shoot. So it shows a little wear. Second, I ended up replacing the front sight. I'm no gunsmith so there are some scratches on the barrel near the sight. I also didn't install it perfectly straight so it's a little wonky. All the same, the sight picture is fine and it still shoots well. The under-rib is a little short and the butt plate is a tad big, which is how I received it. I ended up putting a slip-on sling on it in the field and found that the gap between the stock and the under-rib was perfect for keeping the sling out of the way.
Oddly, of all the things I'll miss the most about this gun is the ramrod. It has a 8/32 threading on one end and a 10/32 threading on the other. So it fits just about any jag or brush I have. I find myself using this ramrod to clean my other guns when I need to get into the chambered breach.
I'm selling because I've since purchased a .62 smoothbore flint last year and think that will suit my needs better going forward. The gun shot .490 ball very well -- making rifle-like groups at 50 yards and even dropped a couple on-target out to 100 yards. But now I cast .480 balls for my .50s and those don't do so well in this gun, for some reason. Even with thicker patches, I'm not getting the consistency I got with .490s.
The gun also threw lead shot pretty well for a small bore. With lead #6, I got decent patterns out to about 20 yards with up to a full oz of shot. Bismuth shot was terrible though. And in this state, we can't hunt with lead. So it's no good to me on that front. It would make a fun small game shotgun in any other state and would easily take a deer with roundball. If you're a smoothbore competition shooter or a hunter, then this might be a great gun for you.
Asking $400 plus shipping, OBO. Also willing to trade for a 12 ga percussion single or double barrel. Pictures to follow.
