I also shoot the out side paper that protects the inner combs. any one else? and if it dries out on you, just squirt a little water on it and it comes back from being brittle.
 
we have bald faced hornets, mud daubers, and yellow jackets. then there are the paper wasps.
i leave the yellow jackets (meat bees) alone. can sit and watch them kill and eat mosquitos from the window screens.
anything that kills and eats mosquitos gets a hearty welcome from me. this year is an exceptional year for those vampires. short sleeves become long sleeves, so many blood suckers land and drill.
