Got a lead pot for Christmas and today was my first casting. It was just a limited trial run as I didn’t have a lot of spare lead. Here’s my setup and also had a big fan creating a cross draft to keep any fumes away from me. I ended up casting 16 .62 balls before the lead got low in the pot. These will be shot in my smooth rifle and English sea service smoothbore pistol and should do just fine. I must say this was extremely rewarding not to mention, very cost effective.

Yesterday I turned 41! Went rabbit and squirrel hunting in the morning with my Fowler! Missed a rabbit. Trying not to rush the shot and it dropped over a rise in the ground right as I shot!:-( Today I shot round ball with the Fowler. My brother in law who just moved here from Argentina shot with me! I’m liking the pattern at 25y! We pretty much stacked 4 out of 5 shots on top of each other!

Belated happy birthday 🎂
Just letting that rabbit fatten up for next time😉

We took the full weekend of mixed bag shooting. We all started with flintlocks in the first matches out to 200 yards, then went to buffalo rifles to 500 yards, followed by revolver on the whirling dervish, lever actions, and trap shooting. This whole ranch is a private shooting range, set up for pretty much any discipline you can imagine, from archery to cannon.
Good food, whiskey and poker in the evenings.

I got my project ready to start the lock inlets. Barrel and tube are pinned in. I’m building this on the super cheap. It’s a 25” recycled/cut down TC percussion barrel and leftover maple plank I had. 40” total length. Made the ram rod tube and butt plate. I bought a $300 chambers Siler lock and that’s about it for money spent.

Another great pic! Totally different outlook here Timber Wolf! We are going through a bit of a weather event here at present. I won't be heading out until at least next Wednesday - hope we stay high and dry! We are out of the current Evacuation Zone just yet. In the meantime, I'll review all the new posts while the internet thingy holds out. Catch you all on the dry side. 👍

Cheers, Pete

Don’t forget, ol’ Jed Clampett struck it rich by missing a rabbit he was shooting at with his flintlock…

First thing ya know, ol’ Jed’s a millionaire!

I wish you many more misses 😬

Finally the weather cooperated and I got to put a few rounds though my newly built barn gun/parts gun.
Never touched the sights but I'll take time to find tune it later.
I found that a .530 ball and patch wasn't happening so I shot bare ball using leaves for wadding.
All in all I'm really pleased.

Brag day. We had our monthly shootout this morning and the trophies were awarded for overall performance in 2024. Very happy. I'm not really very good but am operating in a small pond. I started last year with the object of not coming in last. Also got 3rd place in who is the oldest. All fun and something to look forward to each month.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 TO YOU. WISHING YOU MANY MORE YEARS TO COME

Thanks for all the wishes Team! Everyone gets to go home now. We are dry inside the house. Some more piddling rain to come, but the worst has passed. Can't wait for the range to open! I'm sure we'll all be recruited for a big working bee first, but that's a small cost; and it'll be good to be out of the house and chatting to mates. Crikey, I was anxious for a while there.

Some weren't as lucky as us - Ingham, just to the north of us copped an absolute flogging.

It's a record for my yard - 1100mm in the rain gauge over four days!

And a big thanks again for your kind thoughts 👍

Cheers, Pete

Holy Toledo! My conversion calculator says that’s 43”!!
A: are we missing something in the translation?
B: where dose one buy a rain gauge of that magnitude! I think mine only holds about 5”-8”!
