Tiny priming flasks??

Last year a long time friend and hunting partner threw in the towel. He passed most of his hunting gear on to his boys but also a few things to me. This priming flask was in the box and I'd kind of forgotten about it but came across it today and thought it might be of interest to our members.

The maker is Sykes. Never heard of them before. It's well made and fully functional.

Now , that's tiny. Amazing.

I don’t know much about Sykes but I’ve seen a lot of original flasks for sale on eBay by them. There is a company in India that makes a pretty convincing reproduction of these small flasks. I’ve seen them for sale on eBay and Etsy. They don’t try to pass them off as originals but they do have the name “Sykes” stamped into them just like originals and that would make it easy for some unscrupulous eBayer to purchase and resell them as originals. Caveat emptor…

I have one just like it. The spring broke a couple of years ago and I had to make a replacement. Its one of my favorites.

That is one of the neatest flasks I've seen so far. Didn't know they made them that small.

Just bought one from Veterans Arms. First one leaked, the next one was fine.

I just glanced at a few on eBay and some of those guys are asking nearly fifty bucks. Thanks for the link.

Sykes is a famous maker - contemporary of Dixon & others. Grandmother's maiden name was Sykes.

Very cool ... Gun builder Ken Netting made and then gave me this pan priming flask , darn nice of him.. Neat little design ... Its really not my thing as I prime with my primary powder but , neat little sucker and I got a pound of 4F for free so I'll be using it and the 4F to save my other powder ...

I don't know how or why my friend had it. I got him I to muzzleloading around '79. He bought a 54 Renegade capper and was the only ml he ever had.

It might hold 45 or 50 grains.

Got one of them from Veteran Arms. It and a larger copper flask from Veteran Arms were made in India.
I see them on Etsy as well, trying to pass them off as vintage or antique but modern repros.

I got no idea where mine fits into the scheme of things.

That looks really handy, I bet it fits in the hand well, pocket also. I like it.

It could be a special tiny instrument to put powder in the bolster when dry balled? Forgive me, I’m just spit ballin!

Possible, you might be onto something. Kinda like a super nipple primer.

Well, the parts are all gathered. Just need to get them assembled..... maybe this year
