CVA Double Barrel Chrome? Stainless?

Recently acquired this shotgun. Trying to figure out the finish. I tried to kill the shine in an inconspicuous place. Light sanding and applied cold blue. Followed directions for the Birchwood Super Blue. Well it came off when I used 0000 steel wool. Did these come like this? I thought maybe it was just polished steel. Apparently its not.
Any help appreciated.

Try a magnet on it - most stainless steel is non-magnetic.

Really, I love the stainless. I'd see about a trade if you would refer blue, then you got what ya want and may make somebody real happy was well. I see your point though, would maybe be a bit suspicious looking to some quarry.

Never mind, I jumped the gun sort of speaking. I checked the part I blued and it looked a little black. So I redid it. This time I used Dawn to clean it. Came out good. Did the whole barrel in about 45 minutes. Im happy with it. Now the birds won't see the shiny silver looking thing.
Must be just polished metal. A kit that was never blued?

Took me some time to figure what I did wrong the first time. I carded the inconspicuous area with fine sandpaper. Causing the metal to be shiny. After I applied the blue, it was actually a real shiny blue. I did another area without polishing it, just a good cleaning. Been a while since I blued anything and forgot shiny metal will blue shiny. Dull metal will take the blue but it won't be shiny.
Make sense?

Remember that old military muskets were 'in the bright', and needed to be 'well-scoured and cleansed' in service. But then the users, drawn up in serried ranks of up to 120 men - a company - were not interested in any kind of blending in with the countryside.

Not a real good view but I used cold blue (Casey) on this one. And have another that was built from a kit and is very nicely browned. Neither one is chrome nor stainless

This one is just polished metal. I used Caseys cold blue on it. Gonna leave the locks and furniture as is. I'll just keep them lubed.

Keep in mind these cold blue systems are not real rugged. Keep them oiled well after cleaning.

Yes sir, I oiled it but I see where the blue is still active. I'll let it sit a day or two and oil it again. That should give it the finish I'm looking for.

My brother's wife bought him a SXS kit back in the 80's and the barrel looked just like yours. I assembled it for him and did a rust blue on the steel parts. The barrels were steel not stainless steel and took the rust bluing process just fine.

Yes sir, I figured that out. This could have been a kit. Fit and finish of the stock looks good.
