Rebuild of an antique American Side hammer pistol

Lock plate fitted , hammer roughly filed from D2 , tumbler tinkered , turned and roughly filed from some 1.2842 tool steel ...

This is excellent !

The raw filed side plate and hammer in place :

Lock plate prepared for installation of working parts , outside profiled :





All the parts filed , adjusted and started to finish :



This is , how it looks after heat treating , annealing and final assembly :

Need for a trigger guard , also hammer forged from C45K , polished , heat treaded and anneald to blue colour :



After a first attempt for handle slabs ( which came out pretty ugly ) I made a pair of nicely coloured antique Circassian nut wood , made a sight ( same style as fixed to my Ruggles - Patent - Underhammers ) and a pearl front sight :





And this is , how she performed the first time shooting her free hand , 25m :



Now , after I've tinkered a slightly higher front bead sight , I think , I'll shoot her A LOT !

Even such an odd old cracker was built with some , if not much , brains , thoughts and arm grease - and can/could serve as a sample for a today project !!!





I hope , maybe I could have given You an idea , what would and could be possible , if You only get startetd , ( even as an amateur like me )

Thank you for sharing your pistol and your recreation of it. These types of posts always interest me. If you do a Web search for "Antique saw handle boot pistol" you can see many examples of pistols that are similar to your's. Maybe you can find out who made it.

In fact , I found a very similar pistol on "collectors firearms "( AH5563 ) , the only differences seem to be the attached and linked ramrod and octagonal barrel , probably the caliber , too .


But when I tried to open , I had to learn , that I'm blocked by this site ...

If you ever decide to put these in production I'll take 1 or 2 or........
