I have just finished sanding down the stock and removing all imperfections. I whiskered the stock twice and now waiting on my silver inlays to come in. After cutting the wood to fit the inlays do I now sand both wood and inlays to create a flush surface and treat with water to make a tight bond? After this is done do I have to remove the silver inlays before finishing with stains & oils? Or are the inlays left in? I have about 7 small inlays to do and just want to be sure......John

I have always left inlays in place for finishing the wood. Of course they have to be finished well before stain is applied or you will cut into the stained wood trying to make them flush and smooth.

Hi Phil, with the inlays finished as in the first photo do you have to now remove the inlays from the stock before applying stain & oil? Seams to me leaving them in would be the best bet.... Thanks John
