For sale is an antique curly maple percussion fowler (I believe it's circa 1840-1850).
Asking $275.
Super long barrel - 47 7/8in! Overall length is 63 1/4in.
I believe that this started out as a New England made flintlock, then was converted to percussion in the 1840s. You can see that a piece of wood was spliced in around the lock area (very well!) to fit a new lock. I believe that the bottom ramrod thimble is possibly reused from an older Brown Bess. This was found in an Eastern MA collection.
Barrel is in great shape, with a nice patina and little-to-no pitting. I do believe that if the bore was cleaned that it could still be a fine shooter.
Happy to share any additional information or photos. Also happy to show in person to anyone in Southern New England.
Thanks!
