As an Etsy seller, fixed shipping eliminates a lot of hassle on the seller's end and you know up front how much it will cost. An auction sale only makes it worse.

I like that function too, wish Ebay had it.
It sure helps to get the final bid up there… giving folks time to get emotionally attached to the item in question and make a second, or third, or fourth higher bid seems to have that effect.

What’s with the sellers who won’t sell an actual antique to California?

I just tried to buy a Colt 1849 Pocket but no go, and he wouldn’t even tell me why.

No laws against it at all.

We put up with enough nonsense without being discriminated against by our fellow gun owners.

[Update] The seller of that Colt finally replied and told me they need to call and get a DOJ # even for antiques.

What a PIA, even for California!

If I have to buy a box to ship your gun in depending on which one it is.
The cost of the boxes 48x6x6 is 9 bucks the other one is 48/96" expandable 9 x 9 12$
That doesn't take into account that I have to go pick the boxes up.
Packing,tape,print label,drop off to ship.
Insurance
Area shipped to IE city, town, Hootersville.

Like I told a few people they didn't like the cost of shipping. You go to UPS online. You pay for a shipping label based on the dimensions and the weight of the box I give you. Plus 20$ for my time & material on top of the final cost.
You include that label with your payment and I'll put that label on your box.
I've saved all my old boxes from muskets over the years, kept in an garage attic! Would not trust too much now, on cardboard; seems wood crate is way to go. Yes the extra long ones are 60 bucks! to ship, I think.

The ones that chap my butt are the ones charging $60 shipping. Don’t know why they can’t be honest and just add $40 to their minimum price. I know for a fact that you can ship pretty much any long gun anywhere in the lower 48 for $25 or less. Exception would be an extremely long barrel.
Not likely. I ship various rifles all the time and you cant ship anything for $25. Dream on.

I too see this more and more on GB. No rhyme or reason, usually. I guess a seller is free to choose who they want to do business with.

I put the shipping cost in the description. I.E. 45$ on top of auction total.
Even then some still ask how much to a zip code. Which isn't accurate as cost varies by actual address, UPS, FedEx , USPS Business, residential, rural.
Actual cost selection on GB, that option should be changed to Cost Varies upon location.
Yes I can ship a rifle to Missouri for 19$ postage not insured. ( Like one guy ranted about and accused me of gouging )

The box 9*9*48/96 is 12$ then packing materials.
Drive to the drop off to be shipped & time.
you never have to leave your house to ship anything i set up a account with the post office on their web sight and ship long guns all the time you pick the method and if insured and then hand it to the postman no fuss or headache

The headache might start when the receiving buyer wants to return it....talk about hassles!!

The only time I ship a firearm via USPS is when the customer request I ship it to a specific FFL cuz that's what they want.
True I can have the post office come pick it up. Then I have to sit around and wait for them.
FedEx and UPS will pickup they charge extra.
US postal service charges extra 15$ for any package over 30 in.
When I have to ship a handgun through the post office that requires extra paperwork and drop it off.

I've shipped 238 packages in the past 20 months.
I kind of got a handle on how to ship!

They are afraid of a change in gun laws that will open the door for prosecution of them.

I have bought and sold firearms on GB. I've had one instance on a sell where the guy wanted to pay me with a CC and I clearly stated it was MO only. Went around for two weeks of his stalling, but he finally paid.

Another instance where a guy listed a gun as "New Old Stock" which is a brand new firearm, never owned by anyone. So, I put a bid on it. About a day later I looked at the description again and I either missed it, or more likely gleaned over his statement "no box or paperwork". That got me thinking.....is this new?

I sent him a PM and then he told me it was used.....but it was "like new". I told him he listed it under false terms and we went around about it. I also told him if I wasn't outbid, I was not going to send payment. He went ballistic. I didn't care.

Someone else bought the firearm....and I put his name in a file of "never buy from this seller".

It is a reproduction, Italian made Belgium made assembled by immigrants in the USA, Colt Signature, or Pietta a reproduction is a reproduction, I refuse to pay for needless mark up on "Back Story." However that is me. F-Signature-2nd Gen UNLESS it is an ORIGINAL COLT it is not worth more than any other reproduction on the market. NOT SORRY.

GB has nothing to do with what sellers charge for shipping and it varies a lot by what the dimensions of the box are and how much insurance is applied. I got hosed the other day big time because I shipped a rifle stock, just the stock in an oversized box, with lots of padding inside.
My listing had $20 for shipping. It costs me $62, no profit that day!
Without an FFL shipping modern handguns is illegal in the USPS. Both UPS and FEDEX require the shipper to have an FFL to ship guns and UPS really would rather not ship them at all, I suspect the govt is on their case for losing things.

Plus cost of signature delivery. Shipping center is ~7 miles away so 30 minutes of my time round trip. I generally add $10 and use cardboard boxes from shipping guns to me. I also use some strapping tape for reinforcement. My shipping for rifles runs around $60.00 per event.
I prefer to ship in a hard case but that adds $19 for a Wally's plastic rifle case vs bubble wrap. Buyer's choice...
