I have taken the hump off on a belt sander with a worn-out belt that I didn't mind ruining.
Bought these in the past. Mixed sizes and may have been used already. Bought early at a lower price than $50.IMA (International Military Antiques) has original British and French musket flints, for $50 a pound
Good to know. Thanks.I ordered a dozen last year, requested none with humps, two had humps anyway, emailed them, they said they didn't sort them, have to order them one at a time and request no humps.
True. By the way, does anyone know a good source to obtain that really soft, thin leather ? Thanks.Make sure your leather isn’t too thick. That can cause a similar problem.
Same here, none of mine looked used though, it's been probably 3-4 years ago I bought them and still using them. Biggest problem I had was finding smaller ones to use in rifles and pistols as most were musket size. Wouldn't be hard though to knap them down. I liked the amber ones the best, but unfortunately, they were fewer. I think I paid somewhere around $20 at the time.Bought these in the past. Mixed sizes and may have been used already. Rick, if it's for flint wrapping - my local hardware store sells Fourney? (the welding supply co) 'driving gloves' in cowhide and pigskin. I go thru 3-4 pairs a year in the farm, picking rocks. Finger tips wear out. Use the thicker palms for shooting bag knick knacks, and thinner backs for wraps.True. By the way, does anyone know a good source to obtain that really soft, thin leather ? Thanks.

I buy mine from Hobby Lobby in the leather craft isle. About 6 bucks.True. By the way, does anyone know a good source to obtain that really soft, thin leather ? Thanks.

Thanks. Is it real thin and soft ?I buy mine from Hobby Lobby in the leather craft isle. About 6 bucks.
Yep. They have various thicknesses and colors.Thanks. Is it real thin and soft ?
Have you tried Tandy leather .Thanks. Is it real thin and soft ?
Yes going to try that. I had some thin deerskin, but can't find it. LOLHave you tried Tandy leather .
Probably do the same. Thin out some I have already, and go looking elsewhere.I have not had good luck with TOTW in several years. Even though i have asked for no humps on my flints. I always have twice as many as the flats. I no longer buy flints from them.
I have had good service from Stonewall alsoIf you buy by the dozen, they are already bagged up for sale.
I use Stonewall Creek and buy the bag of 50 to get the best price.
I just knap them to my liking. Gives me opportunity to practice another skill and saves time shipping back and forth.
