I hope I'm posting in the right forum for this. I have been out of the muzzleloading world for quite some time and I'm starting to gather my remaining things up with an eye towards selling them. I'm hoping that I can get opinions on a ball park value on two guns.

1)
62cal (.20ga) Early Virginia Smoothbore
Super Premium ++ curly maple
Brass furniture
Rice 38" D-weight swamped barrel
McCandless Patent Breech
Caywood Full Jug Choked
Chambers Deluxe Siler
Davis double set triggers
Aged steel finish
Builder Matt Avance

I'm ashamed to say that I bought this around 7 years ago from the original owner and never shot it even once. IMG_20240927_152215552_HDR.jpgIMG_20240927_152221757_HDR.jpg

2)
This is another that I had built by Jackie Brown that I have never fired either. I've had this one around 8 years. It's been so long that I don't remember all the particulars. Other than it's .54 caliber.

I want to try and sell these locally as I'm afraid of getting scammed if I ship them. Any ballparks of what I should be asking would be very much appreciated.

Sell online and don't ship until the check or money order clears, or use PayPal Friends and family. Selling locally you'll have to get pretty lucky to find a buyer, even luckier to get what you want out of them. Nice looking sticks.

Don't sweat the online...I've used gunbroker to buy and sell several times with no problems at all. You simply do not ship it until the money is in your account. Postal Money Order is very popular and bullet proof.

Both are fine looking guns. Start high. Can always go down.

Could be around $2K but in person might limit depending on where you are and a buyer local to you. Could also put them on consignment with Clay Smith, TVM, Track of the Wolf or the like and they will handle the transaction and send you the funds when the guns sell.

Unfortunately, if you sell locally, in general, you will be taking a price cut. I do understand about shipping, but you will get more $ with a national audience. For example I recently acquired an unfired TVM fowler just like yours for eleven hundred. The guy was very happy to get that because they are a hard sell around here, he fully understood what a new one would cost, (over two grand) but he also understood the local market. Very nice guns!

The first one, $1100-$1700, but find a buyer. It is a nice gun, but you will have to wait a spell to find someone who can fork out its value. I think if you put it out at $1200 it should sell quickly. If you are willing to wait, you can hold out for a bit more. What do you have in it? That certainly will effect your bottom line.

The other one....
I think it is likely worth more than you can get for it, if that makes any sense. I hesitate to make a guess but I think you can get $800.

I advise you to open your horizons to online sales. You will be much more likely to get them sold in a timely fashion for a price you are comfortable letting them go.

Now show some pictures of the bore and in close on the flash pan.

Don't forget shipping is extra, the price you ask is for the gun only. That includes the cost of the box or lumber to build a box and the shipping charges. Pack it securely to prevent damage.

I've bought and sold on this forum with no problems. I only accept USPS money orders. I've never used any kind of online media etc and some have restrictions on any kind of transaction involving "firearms". I'm not saying there's a problem with those mentioned earlier, just that I refuse to use them. Keep in mind that other kinds of MO's and checks can be made to look legit only to find out a month or two later that your bank is reversing the transaction. Good luck they are fine pieces to be sure.

I’ve got a question for you. Did you purchase both guns locally, wherever that may be?

If you want to sell locally, try your LGS, pawn shops, flee markets or maybe nearby gun shows for local values, though you will likely be leaving a chunk of money on the table. And in all likelihood, once you sell the guns locally, the purchaser will flip them on the internet, think something like GunBroker or other gun selling websites.

That Matt Avance rifle is a gorgeous heirloom if ever there was one. I'm sorry but your post just breaks my heart.
