I have a R&S kit gun thats never been assembled, new to black powder stuff, is there a lot of prep work to do before assembly?Thanks Wtneely

Can't see it in the picture, but I've seen some with heavy machine marks, especially on the barrel. Wood might need some fitting. Check the parts for burrs. I use white Arkansas stone to smooth them out.
I've seen a few assembled without any work on the machine marks. They just put it together and shot it.
 
Here's an example of machine marks on a barrel. I used a flat bastard draw file followed by a smooth cut draw file. It still needs to be sanded. Its a lot of work and time.
