VERY stiff main spring / hammer spring.

In a Colts pocket pistol.
The original broke and I replaced it with one from DGW.
This aftermarket spring is STIFF! It disintegrates caps.
How can I lighten the spring without harming the integrity of it ?
Judicious grinding? If so where or which portion of the spring?

File or grind the full length of the top flat. Do not allow it to get hot! If you can’t hold it in your hand then drop it into water then continue. Test often till you like the feel.

Ive used the hour glass method but on a full size Remington. Little at a time on a bench grinder.

VERY stiff main spring / hammer spring.
