I grew up reading Outdoor Life, Field and Stream and Sports Afield and continued subscribing for many years, but eventually let them lapse because they dumbed them down so much and the quality of the writing became so poor. Just glossy pics, "where to go" articles and the writers pimping high tech stuff. The only mags in a print format that I subscribe to now are Muzzleloader and Traditional Bowhunter. Curious about the rest of you. Always looking for suggestions.

No. Have nothing against print media. Just too much of a nuisance and a strain with presbyopia and cataract onset. I've got four different glasses prescriptions, and I don't like wearing glasses. When I want to read something, if it's on Kindle, I load it to Kindle on my iPad then mirror it onto my TV, and read it there. Most publications' articles are republished online these days and if I wanted to read something in a magazine, that's probably how I'd try to read it: online and mirrored to my TV.

How many pictures of 44 Magnum cartridges lined up and such can a man look at in a lifetime? I reached my limit quite a few years ago. I still like the Black Powder Cartridge News which is the only magazine I take. I buy Muzzleloader magazine off the shelf once in awhile but it's getting to be repetitive too. It's an age thing, I guess.

I’ve quit magazines. I was a long time subscriber to the Backwoodsman. They would have muzzleloader and firearms articles in every issue. They featured self sufficient and survival articles plus tons of DIY. Just before the founder turned it over to Junior it started to change. By the time the founder died it was a different magazine altogether. Finally they priced me out of their market. It was a case of diminishing returns. The more it cost the less I got out of it.

I like Muzzleloader and also get Muzzle Blasts, along with all the usual modern gun magazines. I don't hunt nor fish, so never was too interested in F&S or Outdoor Life. Also, Gun Tests, which takes no advertising so calls a lemon a lemon!

Similar, outdoor life, sports afield, field and stream. But they got badly watered down. The only magazine I get now is the NRA American Hunter and I can "read" the entire magazine in 20 minutes. The ads in American Hunter for the ATVs bother me. They constantly depict them running through mud and generally tearing things up. Every year non residents hunters come to Colorado with a trailer load of ATVs and most are respectful but some think anything goes and if there's no road, so what.

Muzzleloader
Muzzle Blasts
Wild Sheep
Epic Outdoors

Agree with others that Outdoor Life, F&S, etc have gotten too watered down and simplistic. Made another run at Guns and Ammo couple of years ago, but it’s just massively repetitive with polymer pistols and AR’s.

American Rifleman, Muzzle Blasts and Fur, Fish and Game. I mostly glance at them hoping to find an article that appeals to me. Find a couple now and then.

Only one I still get every issue of is Fur Fish & Game. Been "reading" it since before I could read as a little feller. One article I remember the most was written about a guys grandma. How she would shoot squirrel with a small caliber ML and make squirrel gravy for the kids. She used homemade powder, and only would shoot them off the sides of trees, so she could dig the ball out with her pocket knife. Spark was lit, I own 4 small caliber ML's . And yes, I did snap the tip off of a pocket knife once trying to dig a ball out of an oak tree.🙄

Right there with you. The last of outdoor magazines is due to expired soon won't renew for the same reason you said.

My subscription to Muzzleloader magazine continues and remains since the mid 1980's. Yes, like other publications, they usually depend upon the articles submitted by the writers who have specific interests. I appreciated some of the articles that focused on other areas of the country, especially the Southwest. Regardless, it is a quality publication.

Dwight......Yea , me too. All I get now a days is Pa. Sportsman's Newspaper , and Muzzleloader mag.. (I dislike the slick paper , full of shiny photos type offerings.) I like the forum 'cause I can talk back.

Got a free script fotr a year to Sports Afield. It was my Dad's favorite in the 50's and 60’s when he was an avid quail hunter so I grew up with it. My subscription is a huge disappointment s all it is about is hunting exotic animals in foreign countries with an occasional article on US hunting where someone has finally gotten a permit. Maybe the blue-bloods enjoy the articles, I surely don’t.

Sports Afield was a good mag. But, when they hired new younger guys to write - it died - and fast. When I saw articles about mountain biking for fun
and other topics not related to hunting or the outdoor life, they lost me and a lot of other people.

I get mMuzzleloader and muzzle blasts plus NRA’s American Rifleman. Muzzleloader isn’t what it was. Pretty photos, but few articles I really like. I have almost all the old back issues and reread them. I understand they try to service everyone. Okay. It just doesn’t work for me.

i joined the nmlra to read John Curry’s articles. There don’t seem to be many. i have the digital version and it’s kind of a pain to deal with. I don’t care about shoots in Indiana. Since they raised the digital price to $50 a year, this is my last year. I get American rifleman… I rarely read it. I’ve tried all the nra mags and none hold my interest. I might just tell them “no magazine”.

My .2 cents
