Picked up this .54 Lyman GPR back in December. Never shot a muzzleloader before that. Been out hunting a few times with it and had missed twice before this evening. I was flinching and lifting my head I think. This ol flintlock is a whole different ballgame compared to all my modern firearms!

Haven’t played around with It too much yet but settled quickly on 70gr of Schuetzen FFF behind a Speer .535 ball and an .018 patch.

She was standing at roughly 40yds away and when the smoke cleared there she laid! Haha.

I’m hooked for the remainder of my life!

Thanks everyone! I know this may sound crazy but when I hung her in my shed yesterday evening and skinned her out I actually caped her out for a shoulder mount … I’m honestly considering getting her mounted. I’m that proud of her!
By all means do it!
I think that's a great idea.
She'll tell a many good stories hanging on your wall.

Nothing wrong with that. It’s the reason we get mounts done. They are our trophies.
Congrats on your first, nothing like the smell of bp and making meat.

First, congratulations on a nice doe! 👍

Second, attaching a picture of my very first muzzleloader kill...a doe that field dressed nearly 150#. This might give you an idea of something a little different for a mount.

A few years before I shot her I had seen a doe mount at a deer expo where the tail was up right at the back of the shoulder mount. I thought that really looked cool and decided I'd have one done some day. I have it hung right next to a nice buck with some artificial leaves connecting the two. They look very natural together, both alert looking the same direction, except the old doe already has her flag up!

Go for it! I love my doe mount.

I like the way the ears were kept alert and a little flat, looks like she’s about to turn around and start bitching at him.
