Has anyone built one. I love the 62 caliber smoothbore however I want one in a rifle. This chambers rifle has a tapered barrel to make it lighter. Has anyone built one of these and how is the balance? It says it weighs about 8 1/2 pounds, which is manageable. Any input would be great. Not really sure why I need one it just sounds fun.

Ok, you said you wanted a rifle, and I didn’t build this Chambers .62 smooth rifle, so I won’t bore you with it.

For me the balance is very good. It's light. I can hold on a target a long time. It is very accurate. I am not a fan of the back part of the trigger guard though. However, I have noticed other rifle styles have that as well.

"Not really sure" is pretty much the motto of most of us muzzle loaders; it's just plain FUN!

That is correct. He helped me out very kindly. I had drawn a bear tag and really wanted to use this rifle. I no longer had any tools and could not find any other builders that had the time or wanted to assemble a kit. He originally declined and then called me back sensing the desperation in my voice. I couldn't be happier. I never did shoot a bear that year though. Out of nine hunters only one bear was taken. Too many acorns and berries.

I built the Mark Silver Virginia rifle in .58. The sales booklet and website say it is about 8 1/2 lbs. I just weighed mine at 9 lbs, 3 oz. I shouldered it and was immediately reminded how nice it feels.
It was a fun build too. I went from that build straight to the Chambers A Fowler in 20g, which weighs in at 7 lbs 8 oz.
You can't go wrong with this VA rifle. But f you want a smoothie, in a rifle format, why not look in to the Chambers smooth rifle. It represents a transition piece and has characteristics of both rifle and fowler. I have not built that set but I don't think you can go wrong with the Chambers lock, etc.

.62 is a wonderful rifle caliber in my personal experience. Good luck!
I’ve got the Kibler Fowler and. NW trade gun both in 62 smooth already. Was really wanting a rifled 62

My .62 rifled carbine is deadly accurate though I am not the best shot that’s for sure.
