Anyone ever try it? Was given large quantity, reasonBly tight weave, but not quite as tite as my red ticking. Just thought id get some expert advise.

T-shirt material is way too thin to be used to patch a round ball. It's not thick enough to fill the grooves in a rifle to minimize gas blow by. It's not thick enough to hold sufficient patch lubricant to keep fouling soft.

A case can be made for use as a patch for a smooth bore, but not a great case as wadding would be better.

Far better to use for cleaning

I tried that one day at the range when I didn't bring enough of my ticking patches. Accuracy fell way off.
Very early on I ran out of patches during a range session. I pulled out my tee shirt and went home with a line of holes across my belly. Doubling each patch worked but not very well.

I had to go back and re-read the OP post again to see his dimension - GOOD CATCH ---:thumb:

You can always try it. Recover your patch to assess. I'm guessing one layer would be toon thin. Try double or triple layer if needed.

I took the time today to measure a bunch of old T shirts I use for shop rags. I used a friction thimble pair of micrometers to insure consistent readings. The T shirts measured between .015 and .018. I don't know how a previous poster got .0015. A human hair is around .004. Here is a picture of 1 of the shirts with the mics on it. Before people start spouting numbers you need to learn how to use simple tools. I am 40 years a tool maker / machinist and almost as long a black powder shooter. My 2 cents worth

For a long time people have said old T shirts are for cleaning patches not shooting patches since they are knit not woven and knits will stretch. But I was at a serious shoot about twenty five years ago where there were many good serious shooters with high dollar target rifles. And the match was won by a man shooting a stock T.C, Hawken using patches made from an old T shirt both for cleaning and shooting.
