    seating caps on revolvers

Somewhere I saw a photo of a thumb that had set off a cap on a revolver. Had a fair size 'V' shaped chunk missing out of the end, nail included. The photo was taken after it had healed and the damage looked significant. Also, there is a video of a test of an out-of-battery shot with a fuse...

    Serpentine thumb screw

Thank you guys, this helps a lot. Now to start on the MkIII.

    Serpentine thumb screw

What exactly is the purpose of the serpentine thumbscrew? Does is clamp directly onto the match? Or does is spread/pinch the "jaws" of the serpentine? Is the hole drilled through both sides or just one? For that matter, how far is the serpentine split? Just on the "dragon's head" or...

    Making/hardening a frizzen?

It would depend on the type of steel the frizzen is made from. Tempering and heat treating are two different things. A lot of steel only needs 400 degrees for heat treating.

    Making/hardening a frizzen?

Another good option may be to obtain some quality steel, make your frizzen and then find a shop that heat treats knife blades. See if they will throw it in the oven with their next batch, as long as you know what type of steel you have they can pair it with a knife steel with a similar heat...

    Making/hardening a frizzen?

Mild steel itself does not harden whether quenched in oil or water. However, there is a blacksmith's quench recipe floating around on the net that contains salt? and detergent I believe. The claims behind this stuff is that it WILL harden mild steel. Slightly. You may want to have a snoop...

Yes, and to be completely period correct, vendors should charge those same prices today.

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

Looks like Cain's Outdoors may ship them. Thanks for the tip. Also, I am wondering if the new-style T/C lock will fit right onto my stock or if there is some fitting to do? Or should I just see about getting a new cock and frizzen as I am not quite satisfied with the performance of the...

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

I just placed an order with Track 2 days ago and didn't see the T/C liners on their site. They do have some slotted ones that will fit but that's what I have already. I will look around a bit more but if I come up dry I will whip you off an email. Thanks for the offer, very appreciated. Rod.

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

OK, I've been looking high and low for a place to buy the new T/C liners from and hit a dead end. I did find a few places in the US but they won't ship to Canada. Can anyone help me out here? I'm looking for the hex/allen key style. I assume that's the new one from T/C and was the main...

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

Well, the gun is from the late 70's so I don't think I've got any warranty left  . I was not aware that TC made an improved liner. Will have to try to track one down or use the suggested similar one from Track. Thanks guys, Rod.

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

1/4 x 28. Hmmmm...I'd like to install a White Lightnin', but it looks like I have to drill out the old threads and tap the hole. Makes me a bit nervous. I mean I drill and tap stuff all the time at work, just not my barrel. Ok, thanks for the info. Rod.

    TC Hawken vent liner threads

I want to replace my liner but am unsure of the thread size. I don't have a selection of small nuts/bolts at home to compare to. So if anyone knows, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Rod.

    Tips on browning

Well, I went ahead and browned my rifle last night. Took almost 4 hours with prep and cleanup. I'm quite happy with it except for a few light colored patches. I may burnish them out and brown those areas again. I did 3 or 4 coats but don't remember which. Now that I have an idea of what is...

    Tips on browning

I'm getting ready to brown a barrel with plum brown. I have polished the barrel with 240 grit and am quite happy with the finish. However, this is a used gun, a T/C hawken kit to be exact, and the barrel was never finished. I removed everything from the barrel but the front sight which is...
